I attended the annual meeting of the Japan Neuroscience Society (JNS) at Toki Messe (Niigata) held from 25th to 28th July 2019. JNS conference is the largest meeting related to brain and neuroscience in Japan, and it provides opportunity to meet many Japanese and foreign researchers and discuss the progress of the neuroscience research each other. I joined its 42nd annual meeting and presented results of my research, titled “Effect of single-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation on local neural activity in the primary motor cortex and its relation to motor evoked potential (MEP) examined by simultaneously recording of electrocorticogram (ECoG) and MEP in monkeys”, in the poster session. I received valuable feed backs from the visitors of my poster. Further, I had a discussion about submitting paper with Prof. Yukio Nishimura who is a co-author of my presentation. He showed many constructive suggestions for our research. All of ideas and suggestions I received were helpful to improve our study.

I also visited presentation associated with my research and gathered the knowledge related to my interests. I was so stimulated by many young researchers in our research field because they presented unique ideas and techniques using the same experimental devices as us, such as TMS and ECoG electrodes. Especially, one of them presented skillful technique for implantation of ECoG electrodes. In the next step of our research, we are planning to record ECoG signal from a different area than the one we are currently recording. The information about implanttion was helpful for our future research. If I had a chance, I would also like to visit their laboratory to learn the technique.

I hope I will develop my research by making use of the knowledge and connections I gained at this conference.
