Sander van der Graaf

Sander van der Graaf It was interesting to see a quick overview of the diverse research topics that students are working on. Topics ranged from molecular studies, to behavioural studies, and more niche topics like using bees as an animal model which I had never heard of before. The atmosphere was light, which led nicely to the socialising/networking part afterwards, where students and professors could drink, eat, and speak about anything they wish, possibly leading to fruitful collaborations in the future. I am mainly focussing on behavioural research, and discussed my topic and some problems I ran into with a PhD student and a Professor that have more experience in this field than our lab. They certainly gave me food for thought, and some useful tips that I will be able to utilise during my internship. Overall, taking part in the NGP flashtalks was a good experience, even if you only join the flashtalks it will show you the range of topics that are being studied in the NGP community.

山尾 啓熙

山尾 啓熙 This event was a melting pot of ideas, where students from diverse research backgrounds shared their work through concise, two-minute flash talks. Covering a spectrum from works on gene expression, animal behavior to human clinical research, the meeting was a testament to the interdisciplinary academic environment at the heart of the NGP program.
Following the meeting, the social gathering provided us with an opportunity for face-to-face interactions, a rarity in the recent COVID-19 pandemic-dominated era. Engaging with peers and faculty in an informal setting allowed deeper, more meaningful connections and discussions extending beyond academic pursuits to personal experiences and aspirations. While online platforms have kept us connected and certainly have their merits, they lack the warmth and depth of face-to-face interactions. This event was hopeful in sparking new collaborations and forming new connections, highlighting the irreplaceable value of personal interactions in building a vibrant academic community.
This NGP Exchange Meeting was a remarkable example of the power of interdisciplinary engagement in strengthening connections within our academic community, especially in this post-COVID era. This past year, the financial support from the NGP enabled me to participate in the Euroglia meeting held in Berlin and the “CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme” workshop in Bordeaux. These experiences broadened my scientific perspective and allowed me to forge new connections within the global scientific community. Moving forward, I plan to leverage the NGP framework to further strengthen my connections within the scientific community. I aim to contribute to the advancement of science, building upon the dynamic and collaborative spirit fostered by the NGP.

Yuhan Luo

Yuhan Luo Since becoming a member of NGP, this is the second time I have participated in an onsite exchange meeting. Due to some course arrangements, I participated in this meeting online. At the exchange meeting, each NGP student gave a speech on his research topic in a flash talk. This is a great opportunity to learn about the diversity of neuroscience. We introduced our research content and future plans to everyone in 2 minutes, which was also a good exercise for our summary and expression skills. I am very grateful to NGP for giving me this opportunity to present my research and communicate with people in the same field. I am looking forward to participating in such a meeting next time and strive to have more exchanges with other students.
